Dave Brubeck

Dave Brubeck (b. December 6,1920), jazz pianist, composer, and living legend, will celebrate his 90th anniversary this year. To honour this occasion, Sony Legacy is releasing the 2-CD, 21 track compilation Legacy Of A Legend with songs hand-picked by Brubeck himself. It spans his tenure with Columbia Records from 1954 through 1970 and includes selections from 17 albums, many featuring the ‘Classic Quartet’ of Bruebeck, Joe Morillo, Paul Desmond and Eugene Wright

Brubeck’s recording career spans eight decades, and he has produced some of the most recognizable music in popular culture. His 1959 masterpiece, ‘Time Out’, was the first jazz album to sell over 1 million copies, and included the immortal ‘Take Five’ and ‘Blue Rondo à la Turk,’ with it’s daring 9/8 time signature. Both became jukebox classics throughout the world and are forever cool.

Legacy Of A Legend is a commemorative collection of one of the worlds must respected and honoured artist’s who continues to compose & perform. In the words of Clint Eastwood, “If you are a musician like Dave, you can play like that at ninety. Depending on your talent, it’s something that you can do forever.”
